Despite the differences between air and rail, there are also similarities in particular in the field of maintenance.

Trains are extremely reliable but also require preventive or corrective maintenance operations.

These operations are typically executed at night during the short lapse of time (typically 4-5 hours) during service interruption. The train can then be moved to the depot.

Speed of execution is usually possible thanks to the data driven digital remote monitoring of trains. Failures (or future failures) are reported through the radio communication system to inform depot operators in advance.

Trains like aircrafts include very advanced digital safety systems allowing continuous safe operation. Their maintenance may require specific skills and qualifications. Our internal Alstom University courses and the continuous learning opportunities are the key tools to secure maintenance operators training.
