I studied Business at College, I left in search of an apprenticeship

I was unhappy with my AS Level results at 17 so wanted a change. I sought opportunity with an Extended Diploma in Business and it's the best move I ever made. It made me more knowledgeable as a person, understanding and gave me a business mindset. I then turned to the point of choosing whether I wanted to go to University- I never wanted to- so I looked at Apprenticeships, I wanted the degree status without partying every night. Degree Apprenticeships were the best of both worlds and enabled me to gain real life experience, knowledge and a degree for FREE!

As an apprentice I'm constantly learning on the job which is perfect due to the railways everchanging ways, I'm able to gain industry specific knowledge and experience, whilst becoming qualified.

Flexibility, Experience and Knowledge

My role is very flexible, I'm able to choose what I want to do within certain limits but also I'm able to work from home to look after my dog two days a week! Something else is the experience and knowledge that I'm able to gain from this apprenticeship.

Be yourself, act professionally and don't be scared of standing out.

I've found that when I've been scared to stand out my opportunities become limited. When I've taken the leap I've gained wonderful experiences such as awards, black-tie dinners and opportunities to speak at events.

Finalist (hopefully winner) of Apprentice of the Year

I've recently been shortlisted and then announced as a finalist for Young Rail Professionals Apprentice of the Year. This is something that shocked me at first but then after it was explained the reasons for my nomination made me extremely proud and humbled. I feel lucky enough to be given such an opportunity like a degree apprenticeship let alone having the chance to win an award that sets me apart from the rest.
