From a working student to 10 years in ALSTOM
During my bachelor´s it was required to pass an internship so I applied at ALSTOM. In the end I got the Masters´ supported by Alstom and started the career after finishing my studies.
I started in newbuild Engineering, switched over to Services Engineering because I really enjoyed the way of working there and ended up as a Project Manager for tram crash repairs. For a year now I´m responsible for Obsolescence Management.
As a working student I started to build a network within the company which I´m still benefiting from.
Green mobility by sustaining components
The long service life of Rail Equipment – 30 years or more - means that it is particularly susceptible to obsolescence, because some of the components and equipment used in Infrastructure, Rolling Stock and Signalling may be available from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for less than 10 years; it is therefore necessary to manage obsolescence throughout the lifecycle of the system to ensure continued service operation.
By assessing the risk of obsolescence and setting the sufficient strategy to minimise the impact of obsolete parts we´re managing the topics for our projects and supporting the customers to sustain their fleets.
Networking, technical understanding and a flexible way of working are just some of the interesting tasks we´re handling with every day.
keeping trains in operation
Our work is essential to keeping the trains in service. To support our project managers internally and the customers and suppliers externally motivates us to manage the complex topics as well. Mostly, we got long term obligations over 30 years which means that we´re handling the vehicles over a long period. We´re learing every day about our trains, components and even legal regulations.
Go for it!
I started my current position without knowing the field of obsolescence in very detail. My management pushed me to take this opportunity anyway and I´m so grateful that they support my developement this way.
So sometimes, even if you´re not a 100% fit to a job description, but you´re passionate and willing to learn, just go for it and give it a try!
ramping up my great team
In order to fulfill our contractual obligations we needed to hire some people who are interested in trains and willing to find ways and solutions to handle complex topics. Together with HR we found the perfect team members to complete the crew.
