Changed my job multiple times during my studies, now working at Alstom for 5 years and many more...
In the Technical University of Berlin I studied in the field of mechanical engineering with specialization on aeronautical engineering. After leaving my job at the university for an international internship, which did not work due to lockdown, I wanted to face new challenges in the industry. An old workmate showed me a very interesting role in the German battery train team here in Hennigsdorf and I directly applied to it. That's where my journey at Alstom started.
Operability Engineer
There are two key factors of operability: The operational area of the train and the operation of the train.
At start of the tender or project phase, many parameters concerning the boundary conditions of the train are collected, including climatic conditions, infrastructural features. These will be evaluated by the risk and impact on the train design. To describe the operation of the train, an analyzis about operational use cases is made. This includes operational modes like the normal driving mode, parking modes and restricted modes. As an operability engineer I consider the customer wishes and the technical feasibility of each subsystem that has an impact to the train operation. After the first trains are built I am involved in testing the operational scenarios.
Work on a new trainset and see in in everyday service.
Contribute to the development and innovative solutions during offer and project phase, testing the first built trains, then seeing them in everyday service, the big picture here is my main motivation. During everyday work, I like to face new challenges and getting things done within a supportive and inspiring environment.

Enhance your knowledge and skills and ask questions
Alstom's internal learning videos and courses are a good way to get an overview of a new topic, process or even a new language. In addition, a lot of new things are learned from experiences of other colleagues and during your own work - learning by doing!
Try to pick up what is going on besides your own scope, exchange ideas during during a meeting or lunch time and ask questions. So, see you in the cantine?
An innovative study won the Germany Rail Industry Association (VDB) Clean Mobility Award in 2022
During my time as a working student at Alstom I wrote my master thesis in a cooperation with the German Aerospace Center about enhancing the battery train operation in winter with heat storages. With this work we applied to the Clean Mobility Award and won. It was a big event in the evening before Innotrans 2022 in Berlin, with two other prizewinners we met inspiring people within the rail industry, therof the German transport minister, which set the start of our networking possibilities. Another inspiring colleague advised me to also apply to the Austrian women rail industry award. I was then invited to Vienna with a prize to take home. None of this would be possible without the intensive support of my colleagues.
